The Dr. Chota Motala - N3 Interchange stands as a milestone as the first national interchange in South Africa to be installed with LED Lighting Technology.  The full design and site management of the electrical component was undertaken by DNA Consulting Engineers.  At the new Chota Motala Interchange the standard design utilising 250W & 400 HPS luminaires were duly substituted by the energy efficient 139W LED luminaires. The 101 x LED street lights boast a “clean”, cool-white spread of light with a modern touch. The LED fittings utilise the latest in LED lighting technology with a host of advantages. Energy savings from the LED street lights equate to approximately a 56% reduction in power consumption i.e.  51 242 kWh’s per annum, compared to traditional HPS and Metal Halide systems with a usage of 116 800 kWh’s per annum. That’s a whopping 65 558 kWh’s energy saving per annum. This is a saving of approximately R40 000 per annum and seems to be the reason why LED’s are hitting the national roads of South Africa.  The aesthetic lighting also features energy efficient LED spotlights and LED ribbons illuminating the smooth surface flyovers to add to the prestigious look and feel of this landmark bridge.
